UP! is the magazine of the TAP Air Portugal, the Portuguese air carrier. Although very well designed by +2Designers with special attention to cover shoots and showing really interesting contents —I fly as much as I can with TAP and it’s a pleasure to read it— their iPad version is the perfect example of how not to do a Digital Magazine.
The approach of quickly transforming the existing print magazine almost as ZINIO does it is disguised with a new section called “Exclusive Contents” that features a story about the production of the cover shoot, but the Doble Spread approach in Landscape and Single Spread in Portrait means that some content is cutted in half between pages, and most important, the lack of a Visual Index of the contents and pages —we only get to see one page at a time in the bottom scrubber— makes the navigation a bit harsh.
Being the first portuguese magazine to present an iPad version, it is worth to check out, but the minimum we could ask for a company such as TAP and to some designers as +2designers was something more elaborated…
