Personally I like the concept of having a magazine of content created by someone who is very knowledgeable about an specific subject. I am not sure however if existing concepts of magazine translate into the digital arena.

I couldn’t agree more… check the full article in The future of iPad/digital magazines – the six big questions

This I Want To See!!!

I’m downloading May Issue of WIRED Magazine for the iPad that is free, and promising the inclusion of the following tools that I’m interested to see…

In this issue, WIRED extends reader engagement even further, including:

  • Social sharing that allow readers to post articles via Twitter, Facebook or share via email
  • Functionality that allows readers to tap on a “Buy Now” button in the product review section to instantly purchase reviewed products

(…) Very few people write blogs or produce any type of media these days, people seem to prefer clicking a “like” button, or retweeting someone else’s content. It would be more accurate to describe this as social distribution of media — it most definitely is not social media. (…)

• Because you want to leverage device capabilities: a camera, accelerometer, compass, GPS, iTunes library, in-app purchasing.
• Because you want to deliver content with reliability and immediacy, regardless of whether there is an internet connection.
• Because you want to create a unique experience that is designed for maximum impact on a particular device.

Otherwise, it makes sense to build a website.
Not an app.

I finally got around to downloading the WIRED iPad App today. My first observation was it was taking forever to download, initially I thought my internet connection had dropped out. A quick check of the App Store showed the download weighed in at a whopping 527MB! Surely there’s not that much content in the app? Adobe were charged with bringing WIRED to the iPad, so I was curious to delve into the app bundle, and see just what sort of technology they were using to generate this app. I wanted to know where it was carrying all that weight (…)

The Cost of Building an iPad App

Most people have no idea of the costs involved in building an App for the iPad or the iPhone, but as it involves many people and countless hours of work, the numbers can get astronomical and the most times the expected revenues are not enough to pay up for all bills.
